파리에 오드꾸뛰르가 있다면 런던에는 테일러드들이 만들어내는 핸드 메이드 bespoke 수트가 있다.

그렇지만 사실 지금 이 시점에, 그것도 우리나라에서 새빌 로우의 양복점 이야기가 무슨 소용이 있는건지는 잘 모르겠다. 여기 나오는 테일러드 샵에서 수트를 맞추려면 일단은 런던에 가야만 한다.


그리고 어떤 수트를 맞출것인가에 대한 컨설팅을 받아야하고, 치수를 재고, 6주에서 10주 정도를 기다려야 한다. 그리고 회사마다 다르긴 하지만 VAT 제외하고 미니멈 2천 파운드정도의 비용도 든다.

그것보다는 차라리 소공 양복점이나 종로 양복점, 세기 테일러 같은 우리나라 이야기를 먼저 해야되는게 아닌가 싶은 생각이 자꾸 들기는 하는게 사실이다.

그렇지만 우리나라 샵들은 소개 차원의 잘 정리된 자료를 찾기가 힘들고, 이쪽도 저쪽도 잘 모르는데 이왕이면 좀 더 세계적으로 유명한 곳 이야기를하는게 우리나라에서 테일러드를 찾아가는 모티베이션도 되어주지 않을까 싶은 생각에 한번 정리해본다.


그리고 이걸 영국 트래디셔널 브랜드 시리즈에 넣을까 했는데 샵들이 너무나 많고, 또 요새 럭셔리 디자이너하우스 시장은 레디 메이드에서 bespoke(맞춤)으로 방향을 돌리고 있는 중요한 시점이라 따로 제목을 달았다.


그 와중에 요즘 몇몇 디자이너들이 새빌 로우의 콸러티를 떨어트리고 있다는 비판이 있다. 저번에 구두와 마찬가지로 나도 확신을 할수 없는 세계고 하니 역시 셀렉션은 여기저기서 끌어왔다.

잔뜩 써있는게 크게 중요하진 않은거 같으니 딱 5개만 정리하고 나머지는 홈페이지 링크를 소개하는 선에서 멈춘다. 물론 100개의 정보보다 한번 입어보는게 더 많은걸 알려줌은 분명하다.

꼭 수트가 아니더라도 대부분의 샵에서 테일러드 셔츠, 넥타이, 벨트, 지갑, 양말, 구두 등 관련된 거의 모든 제품들을 내놓고 있다. 특히 기브스앤 호크스의 지갑 같은건 상당히 마음에 든다.

테일러드는 런던에서만 가능하지만 유명한 재단사들의 경우 미국으로의 trip을 홈페이지에 미리 고지한다. 스말토에서 일년에 한번씩인가 우리나라에 오듯이 비슷한 방식으로 미국으로는 많게는 두세번 정도씩 찾아가는거 같다.

홍콩, 일본, 싱가포르 등에는 악세서리와 레디 메이드를 파는 리테일 샵들이 꽤 있다.



* 평균적으로 잡아서 테일러드 수트를 주문하고 받는데까지 4주에서 12주 정도 걸린다. 원단에 따라 다르지만 1500파운드에서 3000파운드에서 가격이 시작된다. 간단한 가격선은 밑에 소개에 써놓는다. (몇년 전이라 더 올랐다) 괄호는 회사가 만들어진 연도다. 그리고 2피스는 상의+하의, 3피스는 상의+하의+조끼를 말한다.

맞춤이지만 핸드 메이드를 말하는 bespoke가 있고, 손으로 만드는 건 아닌 듯한 made-to-order가 있다. 핸드 메이드가 물론 더 비싸다.



Anderson & Sheppard (1873)


새빌 로드의 탑 레벨 샵 중 하나로 필립 왕자, 발렌티노, 브라이언 페리같은 고객이 있다. Anderson &Sheppard 만을 위해 만들어진 원단을 사용한다. 2피스 수트의 경우 1960파운드에서 시작되고 (3피스는 2250파운드)8에서 12주 정도가 걸린다. 웹사이트는 http://www.anderson-sheppard.co.uk



Dege & Skinner (1865)


영국 왕실 오피서들의 옷, 여왕의 보디 가드들의 수트, 오만 왕의 공식 행사를 위한 옷, 바레인 왕실을 위한 군복과 수트등을 만들었다. 1년에 3~4번 미국, 아라비아, 유럽 등지를 테일러링을 위해 방문한다.

Edo & Ravenscroft (1689)


300년이 넘는, 런던에서 가장 오래된 테일러드 샵 중 하나로 로열 패밀리 각각의 멤버들에게 로열 워런트를 가지고 있다. 홈페이지를 보면 별의 별 이야기가 다 있다.

Gieves & Hawkes (1786)


넬슨 제독, 리빙스톤 등이 Gieves또는 Hawkes의 고객이었다. 1975년 라이벌이 었던 두 회사가 합병되었다. Savile Row 1 이라는 멋진 주소를 가지고 있는 새빌 로우의 대표적인 테일러 샵이다.
